Kurt Interview

We talk with Kurt Dawson about the quiz team, Abby, and high school pranks.

Tell all the Violet and Abbey fans a little about yourself.

Hi all, my name’s Kurt Dawson. I’m one of Abby’s friends at Chester Arthur.

Just ‘friends’?

Well, I don’t want to spoil anything.

Have you got a chance to read ‘The End of Violet and Abbey’ yet?

Yeah, I read through an early draft. Polished it off in one sitting actually.

Really? Guess that means you must have liked it.

Sure, it’s definitely a great read, although I’ve always been a pretty fast reader. I’m not captain of the Chester Arthur Quiz Bowl Team for nothing.

Explain what a Quiz Bowl Team is for those how might not know.

Quiz Bowl Team, sometimes called Academic Team, is where all the smartest, most gifted, kids in school compete for nerd glory by answering trivia questions on everything from Steven Hawking to Steve Martin.

You make it sound very competitive.

It is. Don’t let our skinny physiques fool you—we’re serious athletes.

Is that all you do?

What are you implying?

Rumor has it you and the Quiz Team get into quite a bit of mischief.

I can neither confirm nor deny, but let’s just say I’m a hero to a very specific subset of the population.

If Violet and Abby were ever made into a movie who should play you?

You mean aside from Channing Tatum? Nah, just kidding. Let’s see, Logan Lerman from ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ is a good choice. Oh, and Thomas Brodie- Sangster because anyone on Game of Thrones is automatically amazing.

Do you have anything you’d like to tell all the V+A fans out there?

Enjoy the book!
